The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered their fifth
consecutive defeat this season after the Delhi Capitals (DC) completed a
seasonal double over previous two-time champions by winning four goals in
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match 2022 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on
Thursday.
Interestingly, the five-match series of Calcutta losses
began against the Delhi Capitals on April 10, when a team led by Rishabh Pant
defeated Shreyas Iyer in 44 races at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. KKR then lost
to SunRisers Hyderabad (7 goals), Rajasthan Royals (7 runs), Gujarat Titans (8
runs) and DC (4 goals).
For KKR, it was the third highest loss in a row in the
Indian Premier League, as KKR had previously lost six games in a row in 2009
and 6 matches in a row in 2019. After this defeat, Shreyas Iyer joined his
coach Brendon McCullum (who was leading KKR in 2009) and Dinesh Karthik (KKR
skipper in 2019) on the unwanted list.

However, if KKR does not mend their team ways, then the
Shreyas Iyer-led side may very well land on top of the unwanted list. Kolkata
Knight Riders are the team to have made the greatest number of changes to their
starting XI and that suggests they're still searching for the right
combination. They still have five games with each one turning into a must-win
from hereon.
5 defeats in 2022*
Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav weaved his magic with the ball to
restrict his former IPL team Kolkata to a modest 146 for 9 after Rishabh Pant
won the toss and opted to field first. In addition to Captain Shreyas Iyer
(42), KKR's top class competed against Capitals pitchers at Wankhede Stadium.
Nitish Rana, defeated in sixth place, achieved the highest
score with 57 of 34 balls and hit three fours and four sixes, while the others
failed to let KKR run 35/4 in the stage. Kuldeep was the most impressive bowler
with 4/14 numbers out of three overs, while Mustafizur Rahman scored three
goals.
