World Women's 6Red Snooker Championship 2022: Vidya Pillai, Varsha Sanjeev Win Silver and Bronze

Former World Tag Team Snooker champion and multiple world champion Vidya Pillai reached the final of the 2022 6Red Women's World Snooker Championship at the High-End Snooker Club on Thursday.

With that, he won the silver medal for India before defeating the eventual champion Warathanun Sukritthanes of Thailand. Additionally, another Indian Varsha Sanjeev added a bronze medal to the Indian team's medal tally by reaching the semi-finals where they beat Waratthanun 1-3.

Vidya had a great run during the tournament where she swept all but one of her tournament matches, which she lost to Hong Kong's Ip Wan In Jaique in a straight decision. Despite this loss, Vidya improved her average and topped Group B to secure the fifth seed for the knock-out.

In the boxing stage, Vidya advanced to the quarterfinals and pinned one of the contestants named Narantuya Bayarsaikhan of Mongolia. Despite having such a tough opponent, Vidya showed nerves of steel to beat her 3-2 and secure the medal for India.

In the semi-finals, Vidya defeated Ploychompoo Laokiatphong of Thailand winning the first three consecutive frames. He eventually settled the bill when Warathanun won 0-4

On the other side, Vidya's domestic partner Varshaa Sanjeev also sealed her Group C encounter with Tatiana Istomina in the quarter-finals and won 3-0 to seal another medal for India.

Meanwhile, seven Indian players participating in the 2022 World Cup (150-Up) have qualified at the team level to play in the round of 16.
