Gujarat Titans (GT) recorded their second straight win of
the season with a comfortable six-wicket win over Delhi Capitals (DC). The
defending champions work as part of the oil industry, working in all three
sectors.
GT won the toss and chose to bat first on the surprising
green wicket at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Bowling first, GT Pacers
made good use of the conditions to reduce their opponents to 67/4 in 8.3 overs,
with Mohammed Shami and Alzarri Joseph leading the charge.
DC were in big trouble before Rashid Khan took wickets from
Sarfaraz Khan and Abishek Porel, but Axar Patel (36 off 22 balls) produced a
brilliant performance to bring DC to a competitive total of 162/8 from 20
overs.
In reply, GT also suffered an early setback with the team
struggling at 54/3 at the end of the power play with Wriddhiman Saha, Shubman
Gill and Hardik Pandya returning to the clubhouse. Youngster Sai Sudarshan (62*
off 48 balls) combined with Vijay Shankar and then David Miller to take his
team through the over.
On that note, let's consider five ways from GT's absolute
victory:
1 Sai Sudharshan presented himself
GT is in trouble at the end of the game and three of the
best hitters, including their captain, are back in the locker room. The game
posed all kinds of challenges for the batsmen.
Still, the 21-year-old showed great composure and anger as
he fired a shot to see his team off. He hit four boundaries and two boundaries
ensuring GT comfortably lost the aggregate.
2 GT pacers breathe fire
GT wicketkeepers Mohammed Shami and Alzarri Joseph picked
up five wickets between them as they tore through the visitors' batting
line-up. Their key players include David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh,
Rilee Rossouw and Axar Patel.
What they did in DC couldn't put a lot of numbers on the
board. Even young Irish pacer Joshua Little managed to do well, conceding just
27 runs in his four overs.
3 Axar Patel impressed with his quick runs
Axar Patel has been in good batting form for the past few
months and he showed it again as he chased DC off the stumps with a display of
good batting on a terrific pitch. The southpaw hit two boundaries and three
boundaries as he gave his bowlers a chance to make plays.
4 David Miller is doing well on his return from
international duty
David Miller missed the opening GT due to national team
commitments. He joined Team GT before their match against DC. Much was expected
of him when he returned, and he did not disappoint in being prompt. Miller
scored 31 runs off just 16 balls, breaking two boundaries in six of his
unbeaten innings. His performance allowed GT to chase down the total with 11
balls.
5 Rashid Khan, the death bowler, spins his
magic
Rashid Khan was brought into the attack in the 13th minute.
The purpose of this trip is simple, since Khan's confusion will be difficult to
attack the dead. The move paid off, as every time the DC fighter tried to mount
a fight against Khan, he always lost. Rashid Khan picked up three wickets,
conceding just 31 runs in his four overs.
