Chennai Super Kings’ Rituraj Gaikwad Joins Virat Kohli On An Unwanted List

After MS Dhoni's return as their captain, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) played with remarkable diligence and energy on Sunday, May 1, against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

The franchise recorded 202 runs for the loss of only two goals, thanks to the introductory pair Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway. The pair set a record IPL standing for the first goal, while Gaikwad placed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Virat Kohli on the unfortunate list thanks to his tumultuous knocking.

From the beginning of IPL 2022, Gaikwad struggled with willow. In the first eight matches of the current season, the attacker could not surprise. However, Gaikwad seems to be back in shape when he thwarted the SRH bowling attack during their Sunday clash. The cricket player scored 99 out of 57 balls, in good faith for six and at least four.

However, Gaikwad missed a decent century - after getting his name on the wrong list. Gaikwad joins Kohli on a list of five unfortunate batsmen who were fired 99 in an IPL game. The other three batsmen on the list are - Prithvi Shaw, Ishan Kishan and Chris Gayle

At the other end of the goal, Conway, who is currently playing his second game of the season, recorded an invincible 85 out of 55 balls - including eight fours and four highs. Gaikwad and Conway also broke some records together.

The CSK opening pair gave a total of 182 shots against the SRH, which was the team's highest opening tribune in IPL history. They overcame the former in a single run. The record is owned by Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis, who in the IPL 2020 formed a partnership of 181 runs against the Punjabi kings in Dubai.

No, the 182-run partnership between Gaikwad and Conway is also the longest partnership for any goal in an IPL match against SRH. The best so far was 157 laps from one of the most popular pairs RCB Kohli and AB de Villiers in 2016.

Despite the shocking win, CSK remained last in the IPL points list. So far, they have won 3 of 9 matches played.
