Mumbai Indians top
bowler Jasprit Bumrah will be kicked out of the Indian Premier League this
year.
Bumrah is yet to
recover from a back injury that has kept him out of all forms of cricket since
October 2022. He is believed to have been given the option of surgery by the
National Cricket Academy (NCA) due to persistent back pain that first appeared
as a stress reaction last year in August.
The 29-year-old has
been a key figure in MI's success in the IPL over the years. He is an
irreplaceable asset in the genre given his multidimensional skills. However,
the acquisition of Jofra Archer is definitely good news for the franchise. On
that note, look at three players who could be valuable additions to MI in
Bumrah's absence.
#1 Sandeep Sharma
Sandeep Sharma is
one of the most underrated bowlers in IPL history. He picked up 114 wickets in
104 matches at an average of 26.33, with a save rate of 7.77 and a strike rate
of 20.33.
In his early years,
the 29-year-old was an effective bowler in the first six of the game due to his
ability to swing the ball back and forth. Although he may not replicate the
same consistency or skill level as Jasprit Bumrah, his presence in the team may
allow Rohit Sharma to use Jofra Archer in a more aggressive style of play.
#2 Dhawal Kulkarni
Mumbai right-handed
batsman Dhawal Kulkarni was part of the MI team last year. Incidentally, he was
part of MI in 2020-21, though it didn't mean anything. Kulkarni also played for
Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Lions in the IPL.
The 34-year-old has
a great record in the IPL. In 92 matches, he took 86 wickets at an average of
28.77, a strike rate of 20.78 and an average of 8.31. Like Sandeep Sharma, he
is also a valuable bowler in the power game of T20 game.
#3 Arzan
Nagwaswalla
Arzan Nagwaswalla,
the Surat-born left-armer, is another player Mumbai Indians will consider as a
replacement for Jasprit Bumrah. The 25-year-old has been part of the home
set-up since 2017/18, although he is yet to make his IPL debut.
Nagwaswalla showed
great potential in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He picked up 35 wickets in 25
matches at an average of 16.62, with a strike rate of 14.7 and a save rate of
6.78. He took seven wickets in five matches last season, averaging 18.14 while
conceding just 6.35 runs per year.
