Gujarat Titans (GT) led by Hardik Pandya won the 2022 Indian
Premier League. They made a clear statement by winning the competition in their
first campaign.
They will go into the next edition looking to defend their title.
In the face of mini-auction Dec. 23, GT produced big names like Lockie
Ferguson, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Jason Roy, Varun Aaron, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, and
Dominic Drakes.
This means that GT has holes in their roster right now, and
it would be nice to fill them with a short sale mini-auction. In this list we
will now look at five Gujarat domestic cricketers that GT can target for the
IPL 2023 auction.
#1 Samarth Vyas
Saurashtra batsman Samarth Vyas has been in excellent form
recently. He became the top scorer in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali
Trophy with 314 runs in seven matches.
Vyas' strike rate of 177.40 makes him an attractive option
going into the mini-auction. He also hit a magnificent double century against
Manipur in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. He will be a good choice for GT as
he hits one point, a situation where the franchise has tried to complete the
player for the last time.
#2 Cheteshwar Pujara
The Indian surveyor is also a potential third-place
contender in GT. He could not find a buyer in the 2022 market because of his
reputation as a red-hot specialist.
However, Pujara has shown that he can excel in the shorter
format of the game. He did well for Sussex and went on to score 136.05 for
Saurashtra in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
#3 Arzan Nagwaswalla
Dominic Drakes is a good left-footed option for GT. With him
gone, they can watch the national circuit that brings Arzan Nagwaswalla.
He picked up seven wickets in five matches saving 6.35 in
the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
#4 Priyank Panchal
Priyank Panchal has joined Gujarat Titans as a
representative in IPL 2022. He is among the top scorers of Gujarat in domestic
cricket in recent times. While Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill are the two
openers, GT may consider bringing in Panchal as backup. Panchal recorded 169
runs in five Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches at an average of 42.25.
#5 Ninad Rathva
Another backup option, Ninad Rathva can replace R Sai
Kishore as the left-arm spinner.
Rathva also brings depth with the bat, which could help GT
in some games. He picked up nine wickets in six matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali
Trophy. Rathva also scored 71 runs in three innings in the same tournament.
