Mumbai Indians are bracing for a major setback as their
number one fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will miss IPL 2023 after recovering from
an injury.
According to reports, Bumrah's injury (fracture in his back)
is worse than expected and he will miss most of the events this year.
"A source from the Indian Cricket Control Board in the
IPL circle said Bumrah, out of international action for almost five months, is
not comfortable considering a hiatus. It can be long," said a report in
Cricbuzz.
As well as the IPL, which runs from March to May, the fast
bowler may also miss the ICC World Test Championship final in June if India
qualifies.
According to sources, the goal for the Indian team is to
prepare it for the World Cup in October-November, if not for the Asian
Championship, wherever it takes place.
Bumrah last played for the country in T20I against
Australia, on September 25 last year and according to recent reports, the
authorities did not remove him from the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru
and all three ODIs against Australia in March. But the latest news is that
things have not gone well and the NCA is not going to do it any time soon.
Initially, it was thought that it would not be a big deal
if Bumrah came back to compete in the IPL as he would only play four matches in
one match and the initial plan was to slowly work his way back into the IPL to
coincide with the plan.
But now it will take more time and at last the management
of BCCI, NCA and Indian team are putting together a proper program for his
comeback.
