Ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, the BCCI has
announced a squad of 20 players, sources told NDTV. Also, top players may be
asked to miss the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) as BCCI wants players to
focus on ICC events and avoid injury concerns. The decision was taken during a
BCCI performance review meeting, which took place at a seven-star hotel in
Mumbai. Those present were Coach Rahul Dravid, Captain Rohit Sharma, NCA VVS
President Laxman, former head coach Chetan Sharma. Board Chairman Roger Binny
joined the video conference.
The Indian team will play 35 ODIs in 2023, starting with
the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka at home.
By focusing on player workload management, the NCA will
work with 10 IPL franchises, to safeguard the health of players.
The meeting was held to review the performance of the
Indian team in 2022, which won both the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup.
Earlier, through an official announcement, the BCCI
announced the main outcome of the meeting.
"The approach to the upcoming ODI World Cup in India
was discussed in the meeting, along with issues related to player availability
and service management," the BCCI said in a statement. The BCCI also has
three important recommendations for the Indian cricket team, regarding the
selection process.
Here are the main tips:
1. Emerging players will need to play a significant amount
of domestic time in order to qualify for national team selection.
2. Yo-Yo and Dexa tests will be part of the selection
criteria that will be implemented in the custom map of the players' center
pool.
3. Keeping in mind the men's FTP and preparations for the
ICC CWC 2023, the NCA will work closely with the IPL franchises to screen
Indian players targeted for participation in the 2023 IPL.
