Germany striker Kai Havertz compared his team's exit from
the World Cup to 'watching a horror movie', with the team finding out their
fate when the result of Japan's match against Spain was posted at the Stadium.
The four-time champions beat Costa Rica 4-2 but were kicked out as Japan's
surprise 2-1 win over Spain put the Blue Samurai ahead of the group.
Despite finishing with four points, Spain beat Germany by a
goal. Havertz, who scored two second-half goals after coming off the bench on
Thursday, said the players' familiarity with the World Cup exit made it
tougher.
"When he does that, it's like watching a horror
movie," Havertz said. "We learned during the game that Japan was
leading, then the announcement was made on the pitch. We still hope that Spain
will run. "And then we found out that the match against Japan was
over."
Havertz blamed the team on Japan for their elimination and
said that all is not right in German football.
"When you go out twice in the first round and once in
the round of 16, it takes a lot of bitterness. “You have to be honest and say
that for four years, everything has not gone well.
“Now we have been relegated twice from the group stage. I
don't think we're a competitive team anymore."
