Virat Kohli Returns to Mumbai Due to Personal Emergency,
Expected to Rejoin Team for Netherlands Clash
Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has had to make an
unscheduled trip back to Mumbai from Guwahati due to a reported personal
emergency. Meanwhile, the rest of the Indian cricket squad arrived in
Trivandrum for their second warm-up game against the Netherlands as part of the
ODI World Cup preparations.
While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has
not officially confirmed whether Kohli will miss the warm-up game, there are
indications that he will return in time to join his teammates for the
Netherlands clash on October 2.
Kohli remains a crucial player for the Indian team, and
despite the relatively low stakes of the warm-up game against the Netherlands,
he would likely want to get some runs under his belt, especially since the last
match against England was abandoned due to rain.
A source from the BCCI has confirmed that Kohli traveled to
Mumbai for personal reasons and is expected to rejoin the team shortly.
However, the nature of the personal emergency has not been disclosed, but there
is optimism that Kohli will be back with the team as scheduled.
In recent times, Kohli had only featured in one of the three ODIs against Australia, where he managed to score 56 runs despite India's defeat in the match. However, 2023 has seen Kohli make a strong comeback to form, and he has been consistently scoring runs, which bodes well for India's ODI World Cup campaign.
"The last two
and a half years have taught me a lot. Those angry celebrations are a thing of
the past. I have had many suggestions, lots of advice has come my way; people
were telling me I was doing this wrong, that wrong," Kohli said, as per
ICC.
"I picked out
all the videos from the best time I had, same initial movement, same approach
towards the ball and it was just what was happening inside my head, I wasn't
able to explain it to anyone," he added.
In the upcoming
Cricket World Cup, Kohli could go on to cement his place in history by breaking
a few more all-time records.
