India's ODI captain Shikhar Dhawan is happy that his side
can show a lot of quality and strong performances in the three-match series
against South Africa. After losing the first match in Lucknow, India won the
series with a two-sided win over the Proteas. “The boys showed great character
in those tough dances.
The bowlers were a hospital today," Dhawan said after
the match. "I'm happy for the boys, the way they're acting. The way
they're taking responsibility and showing maturity. I would like to thank the
support staff." The first game in Lucknow was a memorable one for the
"Men in Blue", especially because of the number of catches they lost.
We showed a lot of character in the first game, we lost a
few catches, but we never put pressure on ourselves. We tried to stick to the
system. I am enjoying the journey and I will try to keep doing well for my
team."
India's 'system' player Mohammed Siraj was happy with his
consistent performances in all three matches. "Against a good team gives
you a lot of confidence, I have to take responsibility. I am trying to
determine the length and the beginning of the sleeve. As a fast runner, you
want that fire and that passion inside of you. I am happy with my performance
and happy to have won the Player of the Series award," he said.
For Kuldeep Yadav, sticking to the routine helped him reap
rewards, as he did 4/18 in the last game. "I don't think too much about
the outcome, I just focus on the process and my pace. I try to play in the
right area. Without thinking too much, my next goal is to do well in the Syed
Mushtaq Ali tournament,” he said.
David Miller, South Africa's captain for the match, admitted
that scoring 99 was almost their destiny "It was very difficult. Not given
a score of only 99. Because it is disappointing today, to end a long line in
this way. There's a bit of a twist, and it's two-speed, and it's sticky because
it's under the rain.”
Miller felt that the group did not do well. "We were
very good in certain areas, we managed to find our places. We just need to
extend the good times when it comes to ODIs,” he said.
