The first three Border-Gavaskar
matches between India and Australia were completed in 3 days each, evoking a
critical reaction from the players and experts of both the countries. When the
two teams arrived at the site of the fourth Test in Ahmedabad, Indian skipper
Rohit Sharma admitted that the surface was very different from what he had seen
in the first three matches of the series. At the time of the draw, Rohit hoped
that the wicket would remain the same throughout the match.
It was Australian skipper Steve
Smith who won the toss and elected to bat first.
"We have to bat, play with
the same team. It's like a good surface, like a good wicket. The boys did well
last week. We will have to wait and see (whether it will lead to Australia and
India again),” he said.
When Rohit came to speak, he
declared that he also wanted to bat first.
"We would have batted first. We know what needs to be
done. Siraj is rested and Shami is back. It's always nice to have some time
off. We need to regroup as a team, you can reflect on so many things. Not the
surface what we saw in the first three Tests, looks a good pitch, I hope it
stays the same for all five days," he said during the toss.
Before the draw, the two
captains received Test caps from their respective prime ministers, Narendra
Modi and Anthony Albanese.
BCCI President Roger Binny
greeted Australian Prime Minister Albanese, while Secretary Jay Shah greeted
Prime Minister Modi.
Modi and Albanese also did a
victory lap on the stadium to mark the 75th anniversary of friendship between
India and Australia.
Australia was unchanged, with Mohammed Shami replacing Mohammed
Siraj in the Indian team.
