Indian wicket keeper Rishabh Pant was injured in a serious
car accident and was taken to a hospital in Dehradun. The extent of his
injuries is unknown.
As Dr. Sushil Nagar, who directed the emergency treatment,
Pant suffered a wound on his forehead, one above his left eye; there is a torn
ligament in the knee; and abrasions on the back. However, an early x-ray showed
that there were no broken bones and Pant was unburnt despite his car being on
fire.
He was referred to Max Hospital in Dehradun where further
tests, including MRI, will determine the extent of the injury and further
treatment. Pant reached the hospital at 6 am.
The accident happened early Friday morning while Pant was
traveling in Roorkee in Uttarakhand. He was taken to a local hospital before
being taken to Dehradun*.
"Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant's car met with an
accident around 5:30 am," Uttarakhand police chief Ashok Kumar was quoted
as saying by NDTV. “The incident happened in Mohammedpur Jat near Roorkee.
According to Pant's statement, he fell asleep while driving, due to which the
car hit the divider and caught fire. He was shifted to Roorkee hospital from
where he was referred to Dehradun now."
Pant, 25, was not part of the Indian squad for the home T20I
and ODI series against Sri Lanka from January 3. He will visit the National
Cricket Academy (NCA) Bengaluru in Bangalore for strength and conditioning
ahead of the Test series against Australia in February.
He recently scored a match-winning 93 in the second Test
against Bangladesh at Mirpur which helped India win the series 2-0.
