India's win over Bangladesh in the Group 2 match of the T20
World Cup 2022 on Wednesday all but confirmed their qualification for the
semi-finals. Although there are still a few numbers in the mix that could see
Rohit Sharma & Co. losing, the victory of Bangladesh gave their words a
big boost. At the same time, the result put Pakistan's qualification chances in
jeopardy. But all hope is not gone for Pakistan. Barbar Azem & Co. have
two more sports to play in the competition, if the items resulted in their
favor, they can still write tickets for the last four.
Pakistan has to blame only for their status is now. The
tournament in India was so close that it could have gone either way. In the
end, the Indian team should win. It was against Zimbabwe that Pakistan lost the
basket and won an unexpected big win. Babar's men beat the Netherlands to keep
their semi-final hopes alive, but the situation has changed dramatically.
Example 1: Pakistan won both matches (against South Africa
and Bangladesh), South Africa won the Netherlands. Pakistan will advance to the
semi-finals even if the Netherlands and South Africa match is abandoned due to
rain.
Example 2: Pakistan won both matches (against South Africa
and Bangladesh), and India continued to beat Zimbabwe by huge margins, so its
return rate fell below Pakistan's.
In fact, the second scenario seems more reasonable than the
first, although neither scenario is the easiest for Pakistan to eliminate.
Babar Azam's team will first have to beat South Africa on Thursday to stay top
of the tournament. A win against the Proteas will bury all their hopes.
