"If you wait for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma will
win...": Kapil Dev's bold statement ahead of World Cup
"If You Think Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Will
Win...": Kapil Dev's Bold Take On World Cup Hopes
From the beginning of 2023, the countdown of 2023 ODI World
Cup has started. The Indian cricket team, under the leadership of Virat Kohli
and Rohit Sharma, may not have gone far in the ICC program in the last few
years, but they are still two of the best teams in the game. But relying on
such heroes to win India the World Cup is not what legend Kapil Dev wants to
preach.
In an appearance on ABP News, Kapil gave his honest
assessment of the Indian team's hopes of winning the 2023 ODI World Cup. The
actor shows that the Indian team cannot rely on Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma or
just 2-3 players to win them the World Cup. The captain of India who won the
World Cup in 1983 suggested the need to produce at least 5-6 of those who won
the match.
"If you want to win the World Cup, the coach, selectors, and team management will have to make some tough decisions. Personal interests will have to take a backseat and they will need to think about the team," Kapil stressed.
"Aap Virat pe, Rohit pe ya 2-3 players pe bharosa karenge ki wo hume World Cup jeetayenge toh aisa kabhi bhi nahi ho sakta (If you think Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and 2-3 players will win us the World Cup then that's never going to happen). You should believe in your team. Do we have such a team? Definitely. Do we have certain match winners? Yes, of course! We have players who can win the World Cup," he added.
Kapil also said that young people should come forward and
take responsibility for delivering at the big level.
"There are always a few players who prove to be the
main players in your team. The team revolves around them but we have to break
that and build at least 5-6 games like that. That's why I said, you can't rely
on Virat and Rohit. We need players who do each job. Young people will come
forward and say 'it's our time,'" Kapil said.
As far as T20 cricket is concerned, the selectors may
already be looking to continue with some veteran players. But, in ODI cricket,
the likes of Kohli, Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan, etc. It is always important.
