Versatile Star of India Hardik Pandya is likely to be
India's next captain in ODIs and T20Is, sources said. Sources told ANI that the
plan to make Pandya the next bowler was discussed with the players. “We have
the plan, we have discussed it with Hardik, he is asking for feedback for a few
days. No decision has been taken in this regard but we are now thinking of
giving him the post of white ball captain, let's see how things go," a
source told ANI.
Pandya led Gujarat Titans to the 2022 Indian Premier League
(IPL), scoring 487 runs in 15 matches at 44.27 in four innings. Pandya also
took eight wickets in the tournament. In blue, Pandya had his first experience
as a vice-captain in the home series against South Africa that took place in
June. The series ended in a 2-2 draw after the elimination of the final T20I.
He was later named captain of the Indian team that traveled
to Ireland to play two T20Is. India won the series 2-0. After that, Pandya was
appointed vice-captain for India's T20I series against West Indies, which India
won 4-1. Pandya led the Indian team in T20Is against New Zealand with Rishabh
Pant as his assistant. India won the series 1-0.
He also starred in some T20 World Cup tournaments. In 27
matches and 25 innings this year, he scored 607 runs at an average of 33.72,
with three half-centuries and a personal best of 71*. He also took 20 wickets
this year in 20 plus series. Also in 3 ODIs this year, he scored 100 runs in
two sets, with a best score of 71*. He also took six wickets in 50+ series this
year.
