In the ongoing T20I series against South Africa, Rishabh
Pant has scored a total of 40 races in three matches so far.
Goalkeeper and batsman Rishabh Pant is currently leading
India's team in the ongoing five-match T20I series against South Africa. He was
appointed captain after KL Rahul was sacked on the eve of the first T20I. The
home team is still 1: 2 in the series and on Friday night they will play a
match against Proteas in the fourth T20I in Rajkot.
Pant's form has not yet been in the series, as he has
recorded only 40 races in three matches, of which 29 in the first T20I in
Delhi. Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer thinks Pant should score solidly and
is now unsure whether the Indian T20I will play in the XI.
"You've got KL Rahul, once he comes back, he walks into
the side, he's a wicketkeeper as well. If Dinesh Karthik is certain
to play, then again, he's a wicketkeeper. So, I am not too sure, with the way
Rishabh Pant has played recently, I won't call him a certainty. I think he
still needs to score runs and score consistently. He has not done that in the
IPL, he has not done that in the many T20Is and I have said that many
times," Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo.
"The way he has played in Test cricket, the way he has
played in quite a few ODI innings as well, he has not done in T20Is. I won't
say Rishabh Pant is a certainty to me," he added.
Pant has a mixed IPL of 2022, scoring 340 runs for the Delhi
Capitals in 14 games with an average of 30.91.
The left-handed batsman did not record a single fifth in his
IPL 2022 and his highest point so far is 44.
This 24-year-old has so far played 46 T20Is for India,
recording 723 runs with an average of 23.32 and a success rate of 125.95. His
highest score was 65 without.
