'Don't compare Suryakumar Yadav with Sanju Samson…': Kapil Dev shuts critics, backs captain Rohit, coach Dravid

Kapil Dev said that Sanju Samson and Suryakumar should not be compared, believing that the team management is doing the right thing by supporting a player of SKY's calibre.

Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson are trending on social media for few days. First because of the unheard of first-ball hat-trick in a three-match ODI series, second because of the lack of opportunities despite Surya's repeated failures in ODIs.

Suryakumar Yadav's T20I and ODI numbers are chalk and cheese relative to the least. In T20Is, he has not made a mistake after making his debut in 2021. In ODIs though, he scored only 24 runs and crossed the fifty-run mark twice in 21 innings. Samson, on the other hand, has an average of 66 in his eleven ODIs.

Didn't that hurt Samson? Despite his success during his tenure, he did not make the ODI team as India chose to field Suryakumar based on his T20I numbers. On the other hand, is not SKY, the #1 ranked T20I batsman, deserves a good run every time he did the closest?

It is an endless and difficult debate. Famous Indian cricketer Kapil Dev said that Samson and Surya should not be compared. India's 1983 World Cup-winning captain said the team's management is doing the right thing by hiring a player of SKY's calibre.

"A cricketer who plays well will always get more chances. Don't compare Surya with Sanju Samson, it doesn't look good. If Sanju is going through a bad situation, you have to talk about someone else. This should not happen. If the team management decides to support Suryakumar Yadav, then he will have more opportunities. Yes, people will speak, give their opinion, but at the end of the day, that is the administration's call," Kapil told ABP News.

After being sent out for almost a golden duck in the first two ODIs while batting at No. 4, SKY was sent out at No. 7 in the third and final ODI in Chennai. Even that didn't work as 32-year-old left-arm spinner Ashton Agar was dismissed for another first-ball catch.
