Joe Root became the club's last 10,000 run at Test cricket
and achieved remarkable success on Day 4 of the opening test against New
Zealand on Sunday. Root became the second Englishman to reach a milestone after
Alastair Cook and a total of 14. In his 218th inning, he reached 10,000 shots
and became the fastest England striker to do so.
Cook reached a milestone in his 229th inning. In fact, Root
was also the youngest to reach the mark alongside Cook, who both reached a
milestone at the age of 31.
Root scored an undefeated 115 in the Lord's Test to help
England beat New Zealand by five goals and take a 1-0 lead in a series of three
matches.
His magnificent century saved them from a score of 69/4 as
they fell behind 277 in the Lord's and sealed the victory in Ben Stokes' first
match as captain of the English test.
