In a historic move, the Board of Cricket Control of India
(BCCI) has announced a gender parity for India's male and female cricketers.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced the historic decision in a
tweet. He said the decision was "BCCI's first step in fighting
discrimination". BCCI women cricketers will receive the same match pay as
their male counterparts. Under the new rules, the fee for Tests will be Rs 15
lakh, Rs 6 lakh for ODI and Rs 3 lakh for T-20.
"I'm pleased to announce BCCI's first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing a pay equity policy for our contracted women cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be the same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Indian Cricket," Shah tweeted.
Shah also detailed the new salary for contracted women
players and said that the Indian women's cricket team will receive the same
playing fee as their male counterparts. This means that all BCCI-contracted
players, male or female, will receive the same match fee.
"@BCCIWomen cricketers will receive the same match pay
as their male counterparts. Test (INR 15 lakhs), ODI (INR 6 lakhs), T20I (INR 3
lakhs). Pay equity is my promise to our women cricketers and I thank the Apex
Council for their support. Jai Hind,” he added in another tweet.
Under the current deal, male and female cricketers will get
Rs 15 lakh for Test matches, Rs 6 lakh for ODI matches and Rs 3 lakh for T20
matches.
