The ICC test rankings only change at the end of each series,
Australia and India are not part of any at the moment
Ahead of their four-match Test series against Australia at
home, the Indian team saw their name top the ICC Test Teams Rankings, due to a
technical glitch on the website. The ICC test rankings only change at the end
of each series, and neither Australia nor India are currently among them. This
ranking was last updated on January 8, 2023 after Australia defeated South
Africa 2-0 in the three-match home series.
Team led by Pat Cummins secured the ranking with 126 points,
while Team India was sitting second with 115 points.
However, due to an alleged technical glitch on the ICC
website, India dropped Australia from the Test rankings.
Fans took a screenshot of the leaderboard and posted a
tweet, but the issue only lasted two hours as Australia regained the top spot.
Based on the screenshots shared by fans, India retained
their position but took the top spot due to Australia losing by 15 points.
In addition, South Africa, which was ranked fourth, dropped
to fifth place while West Indies fell from eighth to sixth place.
However, India will have a chance to get past Australia in
the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which will start on February 9.
The visitors announced their squad for the first two Tests,
while the tour group named their 18-man squad.
