After losing
the second Test by 43 runs and going down 2-0 in the 5-Test Ashes 2023, England
have announced a 15-member squad for the third Test at the Headingley in Leeds
from Thursday, July 6.
In a surprising
move, England have dropped in-form pacer Matthew Potts without using him in the
first two matches. Senior pacer James Anderson, who has picked just three
wickets in the first two Tests, has retained his place.

Potts has been
in sublime form lately. In the ongoing County Championship 2023, the
24-year-old pacer has picked 34 wickets in six matches at an average of 21.67.
Rehan Ahmed, who was called in as a cover for injured Moeen Ali, has also been
dropped. Moeen retains his place as the lead spinner in the team. The likes of
Dan Lawrence, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood have also retained their places. The
trio is yet to get a game in the Ashes 2023. Either of Woakes or Wood are
likely to replace Anderson in the third Test which will be the last chance for
England to keep the series alive.
