Pramod Bhagat and Manisha Ramadass won their individual
finals in back-to-back matches as India bagged two gold medals at the BWF Para
Badminton World Championship in Tokyo on Sunday.
Taking the court first, Bhagat defeated his compatriot
Nitesh Kumar 21-19 21-19 in 53 minutes to win the gold medal in the men's SL3
event. 17-year-old Manisha then made a dream debut beating Japan's Mamiko
Toyoda 21-15 21-15 to win the SU5 Women's Singles category.
However, the pair of Bhagat and Manoj Sarkar had to clinch
the silver medal in the SL3-SL4 men's doubles event. "It is the greatest
moment of my life. I have been waiting for this moment and worked hard in the
last few months for it. It's good to be a world champion. I hope I can continue
with such results and make my country proud in future events," said
Ramadass.
Bhagat, who now has 11 medals including six golds, two
silvers and three bronzes at the World Championships, said: “It's good to be
another world champion. This year has been great for me and to end the great
year with another milestone. However, Bhagat and Manoj Sarkar will settle for
silver in the men's doubles
The Indian duo lost their match point against Indonesia's
Hikmat Ramdani and Ukun Rukaendi 21-14 18-21 13-21.
