3 Best Harmanpreet Kaur moments from WPL 2023

Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians (MI) salvaged a win in the Women's Premier League (WPL) after defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday, March 26.

MI started the season with five straight wins to establish themselves as the tournament favourites. However, back-to-back losses to UP Warriorz (UPW) in DC denied them a direct entry into the finals.

Surprisingly, Mumbai beat both UPW and Delhi in the Round of 16 to lift the coveted trophy. Harmanpreet's reign is at its peak as the star player won her second title as captain after winning the Women's Asia Cup last year.

Harmanpreet rose to the challenge of coaching some of the best players of the game. Without further ado, here is Harmanpreet Kaur's top three season preview from WPL 2023:

65 vs Gujarat Giants in the opening match

The much-awaited WPL kicked off on March 4 and Harmanpreet Kaur set the tournament on fire with a blistering knock against Gujarat Giants (GG).

The MI skipper has broken seven wickets in a row against GG bowlers Monica Patel and Ashleigh Gardner. He became the first player to score a fifty in the WPL and scored 65 off just 30 balls. Harmanpreet's masterclass helped MI post 207 for 5 in their 20 overs. They went on to win by a margin of 143 points.

Make a day for young fans

Throughout the WPL, Harmanpreet interacted with many of her fans and admirers. One of those moments was filled with nostalgia. In one episode, an MI operator flies a girl named Meher to the platform.

She asked the youngster to click a picture with him and followed him with a sweet hug. Harmanpreet said to the girl:

"When I was as small as you, I'd say the same thing. I didn't even know what women's cricket is. But I am going to play for India."

Animated celebration in the final

Chasing 132 to win the first WPL, Harmanpreet Kaur played a vital role in righting the ship for Mumbai Indians after they lost two openers in the power play. Her vast experience was on display as Harmanpreet built a valuable partnership with Nat Sciver-Brunt. Strong efforts by Shikha Pandey and Alice Capsey ended the skipper's 37 runs, but not before MI were almost home and dry.

After Sciver-Brunt scored the winning goal, the jubilant MI captain gasped from his seat in the dugout as his teammates and coaching staff cheered. It was an evening that none of them will ever forget.
